When someone goes off to college, they always have the support of their family and friends. But at this year’s 2009 Haywood Community College graduation ceremonies, support came to the graduates from unique perspectives. Skye Richards, Associate in Arts graduate ,received support from her parents but she was also able to give support to her father, Danny James. James walked across the stage on Thursday night with his daughter by his side. He also received a degree from the college.

County considers 1.7-cent property tax hike PDF Print E-mail

During a work session Thursday, commissioners directed County Manager David Cotton to revise his recommended budget to reflect a 1.7 cent per $100 of value tax hike, an amount that would cost the average taxpayer an extra $25 a year in property taxes.

CLYDE - Even though North Carolina is moving swiftly to create or save jobs using federal stimulus funding, Gov. Beverly Perdue said Monday it could be five years before the state reaches the levels it was at before the economic recession.
Perdue's remarks were made Monday to regional leaders attending an economic workshop at Haywood Community College and during a press conference afterward.
