A New Kind of VBS!
Canton Central United Methodist Church’s Vacation Bible School for 2007 takes a creative approach to a traditional theme, missions. A Heart for Missions helps children learn from biblical examples of missions, help them identify the needs of their own community, and involves them in a hands-on experience of missions. Children don't just learn about missions, but actually engage in missions!
Through the program, our children will discover that they can be a part of missions today. For example, children will create craft items designed to be useful to people in nursing homes, hospitals, and other places of care. Our children will gain confidence in their ability to help others in Christ's name by giving away these craft items.
During the VBS, our church will be transformed into a learning hospital in which children assume the role of medical interns and are divided into groups representing different hospitals. They will enjoy interesting areas such as Lab Work (crafts), X-Ray (Bible activities), Physical Therapy (games), and Ear, Nose, & Throat (music), among others.
A Heart for Missions welcomes preschoolers (3-4 year olds) through 5th graders (completed). Pre-registration is strongly encouraged! Call 828-648-8458 to pre-register.

A strong business must be built upon a solid foundation!

Mountain BizWorks’ Foundations course will help turn your business concept into a business plan. Foundations meets in three hour intervals for eight weeks. During the course aspiring entrepreneurs will learn

:: How to figure start-up costs
:: How to make cash flow projections
:: How to calculate unit price
:: Where to go for licensure and permits
:: What are the components of a marketing plan
:: Where to go for small business financing

However, the most important thing you will gain is confidence and support.

The class will run for eight-weeks from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Pre-registration is required for Foundations.

* All SBA funded programs are extended to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis. Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made of requested two weeks in advance. Contact the staff member listed with said event to request accommodations.

Building on your Foundations - Financial Tools is a five session course which starts with the basics of bookkeeping and then launches into QuickBooks for more advanced financial management.

Session 1 starts with bookkeeping basics

Session 2 you set up your own company

Session 3 deals with customer issues (invoicing and receivables)

Session 4 deals with vendors issues (payables)

Session 5 teaches you how to generate financial statements and touches on payroll and inventory.
